I know exactly what you mean. This is easier said than done, but I’ve found a lot of success recently in expecting and accepting that I will stutter instead of trying to fight it or desperately hoping that *this* will be the conversation where I’m finally able to speak fluently. The more you fight it, the worse it gets. So don’t attempt to hide it constantly, let your self stutter when you need to and trust that most people don’t give a fuck. I suspect what affects others’ impression of you isn’t the stutter itself, but rather your own reaction to it. So if you want to stop thinking about stuttering, you need to change your conversational aspirations: your short term goal shouldn’t be to speak fluently, but to say what you want to say despite the stutter.
