Please don't let previous experiences with speech therapy color your view of speech therapy. The right SLP who specializes in stuttering can help many of us find fluency. I had speech therapy in public school. Not at all effective. I had speech therapy in my teens. Not effective (Because I didn't put in the work.) Went back to the same speech therapist in my 20s. I went from severe stuttering to fluent in \~ six months. I put in the work. I'm not saying that my experience is yours. We're all different. But I really believe that fluency is achievable for most of us. That just because therapy hasn't worked in the past, that doesn't preclude it from working for you today. Try a different program or a different therapist. Try harder if you didn't work at it before. You're not cringey. Most everyone here feels you.
