hey ya'll. who wants to get rid of their stutter together? Pretty much the title. I am 21 year old recent college graduate. I don't think my stuttering has held me back that much. I have a lot of close friends, and have landed a nice job after graduation that I will be starting next month. Yet I still am unable to say even a certain word at my worst moments. Some people will be completely surprised if I told them I have a stutter. What I've done is I have done a really good job of "masquerading" my stutter. For example when I speak to a girl I like, I will never let her know I stutter, I will use words or phrases or act a certain way. This works well for casual dating and such but not for a long term serious relationship. Of course all my close friends know that I stutter (i do not necessarily try to hide it) this leaves me to the problem i am at which is whenever I am "fluent" I do not feel like I am myself. I feel like I am acting as the person I want to be instead of being genuine. This becomes a problem when I have to do a presentation or introduce myself to do something unavoidable. When my "real" self comes out and I stutter uncontrollably. I've read a few books on stuttering and I've found one that I think might be the key to our salvation. https://www.stutteringhelp.org/sf/gated/2118/Book0012_2017.pdf It is a therapy program designed to help us reach our desired level of speaking. Only problem is the exercises are very akward and I am not comfortable doing then with random strangers in person (for example talking EXTREMELY slowly and prolonging all your sounds). So I am thinking if I can find someone else who stutters, then we can practice this therapy program with each other. We will be more comfortable and with this practice we can gain confidence to speak to others as our authentic selves. You do not need to read the book, I am read it many times myself so I can just tell you what to do, but I recommend reading it yourself too. We can practice over discord or the phone or skype or what not. Let me know
