Hopefully you haven’t already had the interview, it’s going great actually. Now that I have my set phrases, it’s a whole lot easier for me to approach my tables w a kind of relaxed vibe and I don’t really have too many troubles unless they’re abruptly chatty or give off an intimidating vibe(uppity white folks for whatever reason). I actually failed my first serving “test” mostly because I was way to awkward with my manager, I attribute that to my stutter. Second time around tho it went great, I’ve learned that if I can pretend like I’m talking to old friends it makes me a lot more comfortable. As far as the test went, I stopped all the pretending, and just made myself realize that I’m serving someone I actually know and there’s nothing to be stressed about. Next thing I knew I was cracking jokes about the strange allergies she listed and I aced it. I’m a very social person so this stuff works great for me, but maybe not the next person. Either way I think it’s important to remember that you’re gonna make mistakes, you’re gonna have blocks, but at the end of the day it’s not gonna kill you if you’re kind of awkward to some random person. Even non stutterers have off days where they interrupt people by accident or say something weird. Every table is a clean slate where you can try a new strategy so it really doesn’t matter. TLDR- treating guests like they’re friends helps me be a lot more laid back, and even if you stutter to some table it doesn’t matter cuz you’ll never see them again and they’ll forget about you within the hour Good luck!
