My first reaction was to say you're being rather harsh, but thinking back, as kids we were expected to recite poems at family gatherings for Christmas, Easter and the like to "earn" the gifts. Quite the soul crushing experiences those were. So I guess if adults can be inconsiderate like that, we get a pass too, haha.
