I’m an engineering student at college. One of the best things that I decided to do in college is to ask my friends to repeat my questions. I make friends with the person sitting next to me and I tell them about my stutter (before class or they might be a friend I already knew). For some reason, they can usually understand me better than the professor so if I say something and the professor says he can’t understand me then I ask her to repeat what I said. That way I get my question answered with a lot less “I can’t understand you, repeat that”. Also, I stutter real bad when I try to make my voice louder than it is naturally so don’t be afraid to tell people of your limitations. I find that people at college have been so accommodating and nice. One of the most stressful parts to me was ordering from food places on campus because it was always loud and filled with people. So if there’s numbered combos I usually hold up what number I want with my hands and try to say “combo” and they usually understand. Or I point to what I want while I speak so that they get a visual. Anyways, I hope that helps! Those are just my random tips that have helped me stay alive in college! Just be yourself, make friends, and enjoy your freedom!
