The American Institute for Stuttering in NYC changed my life. While the techniques you learn are helpful, the most helpful part for me was the desensitizing therapy. Walking around washington square park, taking surveys about stuttering, on the first day of therapy was the hardest thing I have ever done. I still stutter. Not nearly as much as I used to, but I still struggle with it. The difference now is that I no longer avoid talking. So to the OP, work on getting those who you help to accept their stuttering. They may acheive near 100% fluencey, but they will always be a person who stutters.
