OP, what you are doing is what I have been doing since the days I could talk. Word substitution. I have an extreme form of stuttering. I am currently 47. I would verbally start to stutter and immediately go into my bag of tricks. Even silent blocking is bad for me. In high school, I purchased a book of synonyms and antonyms and memorized both books. I have a photographic memory. When I blocked, I would quickly do word substitutions in my mind that have the same intentions of my thoughts I wanted to convey. That helped a little bit in terms of increased fluency but not that much. In terms of alcohol, I do not drink. Caffeine like coffee made my speech worse. Stuttering is a weird, in my opinion disability when trying to develop ways to increase one's fluency. When one thinks they found that perfect pathway, the third bend in they roadway brings you back to the start. Good luck, OP.
