When I was in teachers' ed, the instructors kept harping on "don't say uh when you're talking." I kept thinking "if I didn't say 'uh,' I wouldn't talk at all." Fortunately, teachers' ed faculty is dominated with people who left the field after 3 years and got their Ed. D, and it was never an issue during my career.
