>*"I always knew I stutter. But I've never seen it as a problem"* I came across a post on the r/slp subreddit that shared a similar story. It was about an SLP (speech therapist) who, while studying at University.. had some of her professors recommend she attend speech therapy to work on her fluency. She shared how offended she felt by this suggestion on the SLP subreddit, and most SLPs agreed with this. In her post, she explained to other speech therapists in the subreddit that even within the field of speech disorders, there’s a lack of true acceptance of stuttering. I mean, if professors—who’ve dedicated their careers to studying speech disorders—can’t fully accept stuttering as it is and be truly comfortable with it, how can we expect the rest of the world to be okay with it or be comfortable with it?
