>Complete and utter desensitization and destigmatizing of your stutter. Thinking about your stutter ‘primes’ (or warms up) the stuttering part of your brain, making you more likely to stutter. It’s a self-perpetuating cycle of thinking about stuttering turning into stuttering turning into thinking about stuttering. It’s not as easy as “oh just stop thinking about it”, but once you figure out how to do that, it really is that easy. This. I still stutter, but I know this holds more truth than most other teachings being spead by SLP's or other type of stutter therapists I have come across. (***edit: for me personally, in my situation***) I feel like a lot of people don't want to hear about it being a self-perpetuating cycle, because they feel they're being blamed for their stutter. Obviously, it's slightly more complicated than finger pointing or blaming, but in a nutshell, it's true, in my opinion. It's something I've started to discover along my own journey to figure out why I stutter. I hardly ever hear about this self-perpetuating cycle from SLP's/Stutter therapists or youtube experts. No hate or judgement, but it's just something I noticed around my area.
