Yes, this is quite common. Many of us learn to adapt to our native language in order to stutter less. When you are learning a new language you are learning a bunch of new sounds and ways of moving your mouth, so you sort of have to start over again. English is my native language and when I started to learn Danish, I had the same issues you were having. Hopefully, the more you learn the closer the level of stuttering will be in your native language.
