I am currently being coached by Lee Lovett, and his methods have helped a vast range of people who stutter, including myself. He has a popular book on Amazon and his own [Twitch channel](https://www.twitch.tv/speechwhisperer). He offers to coach people for free, provided they are open to helping others. Self-Hypnosis is one component of his three-prong approach to self-cure stuttering. The objective is positive thinking by visualizing yourself speaking fluently during communication situations. After some time (perhaps 30-60 days), this new reality eventually becomes ingrained in your subconscious mind. You can also achieve the same end goal via affirmations, which involves repeating the message to yourself throughout the day. The logic follows that if you are able to speak or read fluently when alone, you have the ability to speak fluently when communicating with others. It is important to not view hypnosis as reaching a mystical trance and being instantly cured. It is one technique among many others, that helps a message reach your subconscious mind faster. It does so by helping remove the conscious mind's natural barrier, which does a good job of filtering daily noise and distractions. Like learning to swing a golf club or shoot a basketball, the physical and mental movements must be repeated over and over again, until your subconscious accepts the new behavior and creates the neural pathways necessary to make it an automatic behavior. The science behind it is quite sound, and is an essential part of any successful athlete's performance training. Mindful meditation is also extremely helpful to allow the new behavior to take place, by shifting focus to an in-the-present mindset that allows the subconscious mind react accordingly to what it was just trained to do.
