I've been a SDET for about 10 years. Found that some places will definitely judge you for your speech. The ones that don't are where you want to work at anyway. I recently landed my favorite company so far, and they made the interview process go pretty smooth for me. As others have said, contracting is an easy way to get in the door, and it is great to build up your resume quickly.
