Stoic philosophers, such as the Emperor Marcus Aurelius (through is *Meditations*) taught, among many things, the concept of the dichotomy of control. It's the idea there are things you have control over and things you have no control over, except how you react to them (and that's the important part: you still have control over how you react to the things you do not control). So, you have little to no control over your stutter/the fact that you stutter and the reaction of other toward your stutter/yourself when stutter, but you have 100% control over how you react toward all of these things. To react by feeling anger and despair is useless and hurt you, so it's better to react by feeling acceptance. Of course, it's easier said than done, but it's doable once you realize that you are the master of your reactions.
