I have a severe lifelong stutter who spent years in social isolation and speech therapy (which did not work at all, BTW). I was born the way I am with all of the problems described. I also work in a facet of social care and see many, many, many people spend hours in self-pity instead of doing anything about it. I've also seen many people work \*very hard\* over long periods of time to make their lives better. It takes hard work to make ones life better. There are no shortcuts. There is no easy way. There is no entitlement to a better life. It takes lots of personal effort and drive. Wallowing in self-pity is a choice.
