fluency when alone It has been reported for over 80 years that people who stutter are more fluent when they are alone. Most recently, Prof. Eric Jackson (NYU) and co-workers reported almost complete fluency among PWS if they truly believed they were alone. This was certainly my experience: back in 1998 I injured my hand and had to use speech-to-text to transcribe my speech into emails. I was very surprised to see/hear that I was so much more fluent when I was alone. So my question to this fine Reddit community is: if you go somewhere where you are sure you can’t be heard, and start reading aloud from a book or from a website, are you (1) completely fluent; (2) much more fluent than I normally am; (3) slightly more fluent than I normally am; (4) just about the same fluency than I normally am; or (5) less fluent than I normally am ?
