That's odd advice. Speech & Language Patholigists who specialize in stuttering are experts and the best people to approach. With acquired stuttering (as opposed the developmental stuttering which starts in childhood) it's also a really good idea to consult a psychiatrist and a neurologist, as TomTome3 has done.
