How did this happen? I've had a stutter pretty much ever since I could speak. In first grade, my teachers picked up on my speech impediment and I was put in speech therapy, where I would continue going all the way until senior year of high school. As far as I can understand, stuttering can be caused by a number of things. The most prominent of which are genetic, neurological conditions/brain damage, or emotional trauma. The reason why I ask this is because I'm not entirely sure what my problem is. Nobody else in my family stutters so I'm reluctant to blame it on genetics, I never experienced any kind of brain damage, but I did experience a great deal of emotional trauma. The most logical conclusion would be to blame it on my trauma, but I never experienced these things until well into my childhood. I understand that this is not the place to get a medical diagnosis, but I'm genuinely curious if anybody else knows what caused their stutter, and if it's possible that I simply have a neurological disorder.
