Yo Anthony my name is Connor and I’m 21 years old. I have a pretty bad stutter but I have ways of helping it like every other person. I’m on track to get my associates in the spring and my major is general studies. And one of the requirements is taking a speech class. A fucking speech class. A class dedicated to giving speeches and reading aloud to others. It was awful for me as you could imagine. It was a once a week night class for almost 3 hours last semester. Every class we had to give a presentation and stand infront of everyone and talk about an issue you thought was important. No PowerPoint to mentally distract you, no paper to hold, you just stand there and explain your point while looking dead center at everyone. The first time I stuttered my ass off because I was scared as hell. 2nd time was better, 3rd time was ok, 4th time ok, and the 5th time was actually kind of fun. By the end of the semester, I was so confident in myself, I did presentations on stuff I actually thought was interesting and fun to share to the class. I know I’m rambling but the point of the story is it gets easier. It’s like talking to a girl you think is attractive. First time your gonna fail and look stupid, 2nd time your gonna fail, and the 3rd time it will become routine. And by the 8th girl, you don’t give a fuck if she thinks your funny, cool, whatever, your talking to her because you want to. Public speaking and stuttering is the same. The more relaxed and confident you become, the better off you will be. Because if you don’t know, stuttering is a mental thing, not a physical one. So if your mind is at ease, your stuttering will be too. At least that’s what I’ve noticed having a stutter all these years.
