Can’t vocalise certain words Hello everyone, first time posting here. I have this inability to vocalise certain words with consonants next to each other. Examples: undergraduates, India, community. Some words just get stuck in my throat and can’t come out even though I know how to vocalise them. Like today on a very public Zoom call that I was facilitating, I couldn’t pronounce “Alyssa”, one of the speakers present. I am also increasingly unable to pronounce “Emily”. I have someone with that name on another call tomorrow. I am dreading saying their name. I had a stutter as a kid that I outgrew in high school. I even competed very successfully in public speaking competitions. I disengaged from public speaking during my college entirely. During my Master’s, I again developed a stutter and it was pretty bad. I froze completely while presenting my thesis even though I had a script in front of me. I couldn’t vocalise it at all. I’ve improved significantly since then. I’m now in the fourth year of my PhD and give presentations often. But the stutter remains in strange ways. Like the inability to vocalise certain sounds. In a few months, it will be another set of sounds that I’m unable to vocalise. This is so frustrating. What’s going on? Should I try speech therapy?
