Also an SLP student (second year grad student that literally just finished my stuttering course). I agree with this recommendation. The recommendation to speak with your son one on one in a slower manner is actually a great start and may just need more time to see real change (your post does not specify how long you have been implementing this recommendation). The SLPs may have different approaches because stuttering is not that common and therefore not all SLPs have tons of experience working with individuals who stutter. I would suggest going with the “stutter specialist” (who I hope is an SLP) for treatment/home activities/advice, as this person likely has far more experience diagnosing and treating stuttering. If you want more SLP insight, you could try posting to [r/slp](https://www.reddit.com/r/slp/) to find more SLPs with experience working with people who stutter and see if they have further suggestions.
