I agree with you 100%. Desensitization and acceptance is important. Additionally, some PhD researchers state that speaking slower or applying easy onset in the anticipation of stuttering, will likely reinforce stuttering anticipation and avoidance-behaviors. Another PhD researcher (Yairi) states that up to 87.5% of PWS outgrow stuttering, some of whom never anticipated stuttering whereas others did report experiencing stuttering anticipation. After stuttering recovery they reported that they don't anticipate stuttering anymore. I encounter not a lot of people discussing research, so I'm happy to see that you also read research papers.
