As a pretty decent looking man I would say that people expect me to be very outgoing and social and when I’m not they wonder why I’m so quiet, think I don’t like them, or am stand offish. Majority of my friendships in life have been from them approaching me. I also played sports so I was able to have that as part of my identity as well. My social shortcomings in my life have in my opinion been because of my fear of stuttering and being different and lack of initiative, not because of lack of opportunity. As far as forming romantic relationships because men are supposed to initiate majority of the time I definitely have not had nearly the amount of experiences I would have otherwise. There have been many instances where I get the signals from girls but don’t approach them because of anxiety of my stutter. With that being said once I break that initial barrier women generally don’t care if I stutter and everything is fine and I usually stutter less once I get comfortable.
