Hey wassup, based on your response, you’re already tense and anxious, that’s basically a recipe for failure. When you inhale, imagine you’re breathing in peace and clarity into your body and mind, almost like there’s clouds blocking the sunshine. Your exhale (in my opinion, what’s helped me) should be clearing away your clouds aka clearing your mind, clearing your anxiety, your worries. You should not be thinking about that. Focus on the present. It’s not a cure but it helps. It really is true when they say if you focus on worrying about stuttering you will stutter more. Let go of that. Now I’m not cured from stuttering, I still stutter, but less. I still worry about stuttering. But I don’t rehearse anymore. I don’t make up scenarios in my head about how a conversation might go. If I have a block; I’ll literally stop right there, take a small breath, and try to say it again or start my sentence over. I might try to come up with a substitute for the word. In a way, I try to play it off as normal or I’ll just say hey sorry I was a little nervous. I still have ways to go but I’ve learned this is a muscle or a skill and you have to practice or train if you want to get good at it. I believe you need to bring together many aspects to help yourself such as self love, patience, confidence, practice, and self whatever else. When you can bring some of these things together and actually believe in them and I really mean that. You need to have faith. I don’t know I feel getting older has helped?! Not sure what the science is there though. Also I can only speak for moderate to mild stutterers.
