I think there's a tradeoff. On the one hand you dont feel that temporary intense feeling of embarrassment. On the other hand, you're reinforcing your fear of stuttering in front of other people or looking stupid. The only way I know to stop that is to fight back and not give in. But it doesn't have to be a fight. If you read in class, you would feel the crappy feeling of being embarrassed but you might feel it a little less by the end of the year. And more importantly you can hopefully feel good about yourself that you stick out your reading paragraphs even when you're having a hard time. that's good perseverance.
