What is this? I don't stutter, but I "block", and it only happens when I'm anxious. The anxiety can be due to speaking in front of a crowd, or it can be anticipatory anxiety about a certain word that begins with a certain letter that I know I've blocked on in the past.

What is this? I don't stutter, but I "block", and it only happens when I'm anxious. The anxiety can be due to speaking in front of a crowd, or it can be anticipatory anxiety about a certain word that begins with a certain letter that I know I've blocked on in the past. The anticipatory anxiety makes me, inevitably, block on the exact word I feared blocking on. For the record, I don't ever stutter when I am alone, and I never stutter when I am completely comfortable. Considering the anxious nature of this speech issue, I'm considering taking a trial course of Prozac. It's used for people with selective mutism, classified as an anxiety disorder. I relate to people with SM but don't think the label completely applies to me. Thoughts?
