Phrasing- The way to speak with complete control I have been in speech therapy for the past 2 years and I wanted to share what I thought was the most important aspect of fluent speech and what has helped me out the most Phrasing. Phrasing is really simple. It is the most effective and easiest tool in which someone can speak fluently with. It's pretty self explanatory. You simply speak in phrases. You take pauses in between words. For example: I want to.... go to the mall.... and afterwards.... I want to.... go to... the basketball game. You just simply pause after saying any number of words. But the key is to not rush yourself out of the pause What has helped me is to really take my time between pauses and words to MAKE SURE that my BODY IS READY to speak the next phrase. This means: 1. Making sure the abdomen is relaxed and you're taking full deep breaths 2. Making sure to use "easy onsets" and lightly hit the first sound. So ya that's pretty much it. This has helped my speech drastically. It makes you sound more intelligent and keeps you composed. You can speak at your own rate. It's all about not conforming to time pressure and speak at the rate that YOU are comfortable at. Hope this can help someone :)
