I have the same issue! It totally sucks. I’m in a job where I have to “cold-open” saying peoples names to call them from the waiting room (ugh). Here are some tricks I refer to! - start by humming before you say the persons name. Saying names in a sing-song voice also helps get it out. - don’t get yourself caught in the anxious mental prep cycle. Say an easy word/name in your head repeatedly until you say the persons name (I love thinking “Ssssam Sssssmith” over and over because S comes out easily for me) - if it’s a casual conversation, use filler words that you can merge with the person’s name/your name, like “HeyJack, …” or “SoJack, …” and “OhI’mNellie” (or if Dr office/company/whatever needs your name) “The first name is xx, and the last name is xx.” Basically find your easiest onset sound and incorporate into the start of your sentence that helps with your flow. I hope these are helpful!! Word block in my case is a bit of a mind game. I think about saying the difficult word and get anxious and that makes it even tougher to say. Distracting yourself when you get in the anxious word-block rut has been super helpful for me. Go easy on yourself and don’t be afraid to let someone know that you stutter when you are having trouble with a word. I’ve had to let people know this during my blocks - other people are usually so wrapped up in their own mental process that they don’t pay it much mind. :)
