I chose to be a software developer because I thought I wouldn’t have to talk much. My uncle chose chemistry because he thought he wouldn’t have to talk much. We both stutter. We both ended up starting companies where we had to do sales, interview people, run team meetings, etc. Throughout my career I always “thought” that my stutter was limiting me, but looking back and comparing my experience with fluent peers I don’t think it really has. It’s not a bad idea to choose a career path based on a realistic evaluation of your skills, but you also don’t have to limit yourself.
