There are a number of methods to unlearn your blocking/ stutter. Lee Lovett’s is one of them. For a start, he knows from experience that stuttering is not a disease. Therefore there is no “cure”, no magic pill. It’s a complex phobia that must be unlearned. A serious stutterer until my mid- fifties, it took 15 years to lose my fear of words, of people, of stressful situations. Instead of unlearning my stutter, I learned to forget myself, ask questions and really listen to the other. In other words, stop monitoring yourself while speaking and look at the person opposite you. You have a choice: observe yourself or the other. It’s impossible to do both at the same time. Practice this with someone you feel comfortable with at first. Imagine you care deeply for this person. Smile! Whenever I was confronted by a feared word, I knew I had lost contact with my speaking partner. Magic happens when you reach out and touch the other. Try it, you’ll never forget that moment! Your brain will keep feeding you feared words. Smile and tell it “there are no dangerous words”. Then think of people you like and trust. Acknowledge people you meet in the street “hello, good morning, nice day”. Little successes like this are confidence builders that add up.  For 50 years I was an angry, impatient, rude man with a big chip on his shoulder. No one liked me. I didn’t like me! I’m still working on myself every day. It’s worth the effort because my life has changed sooo much.  Hans
