This is actually what my thesis is on! It’s not finished yet but I’ve noticed that some more modern examples tend to be better than older ones; It, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, etc. Meanwhile in the 90s, you had things like The Waterboy, who’s entire premise is “haha he no talk good”, and My Cousin Vinny, among others. In regards to your last question, surveys have been done on that and the results are usually that we’re seen as nervous, and as making people uncomfortable. It’s a little more nuanced than that but I’m on my phone and don’t want to just copy and paste my paper 😅
