I have a moderate/severe stutter and am someone who has never had the patience to work on becoming more fluent. I worked at Walmart in my early 20s as a cashier at first, then a cart pusher, and finally pet department. To me, Walmart was a miserable place to work, especially in a cashier position. I just said the bare minimum to people to keep my job. Except when I went to pets, because I was passionate about getting people to understand a goldfish or Oscar couldn't live in just a small bowl of tap water. Anyway, I'm in my 40s now. 9 years ago I somehow managed to get a job that pays a very nice wage, beating out dozens of others for it. Probably because I spun my stutter to the panel interview as something that I persevered through, like Thomas Jefferson, Moses, etc. Except that was a line of bull because at that point I hadn't overcome my insecurities about my speech. I will say the older I get the less I care what other people think about how I talk (amongst other things). Not caring seems to make me stutter less. Take it from someone older: it WILL get easier. You will be gainfully employed so long as you keep trying.
