Try and expand your vocabulary. Depending on what type of stutter you have, I find that I get stuck on certain words and I can't say them so I come up with an alternate phrase/words to fill in with what i'm struggling on. If a lot of pressure is building on the situation i.e. i've openly stammered and its embarrassing, i can just tell people i'm stuttering and they bear with me. Another guy i know with a stutter uses words such as 'You know yourself' 'whatsit' 'its like i was saying' in order to give himself time and momentum to overcome what he's struggling with. Both of us have tried speech therapy separately and both found it to be unhelpful as we were made to read text to identify the problem. Neither of us have problems reading text, therefore we were told we have no problem. I think its a personal issue that you need to try and find a workaround that suits you.
