i had mild stutter as a kid and got relatively rid of it with speech therapy when i was around 11. fast forward 12 years later it came back so strong like I never had before and I was virtually unable to speak. I had to skip my classes where I had to do presentations and I tried several speech therapy methods that didn’t really work and I lived like that, unable to form sentences and communicate for a couple years until I saw a neurologist who noticed my heart rate was 200 per minute -she was horrified. then prescribed me propranolol twice a day. magically i got rid of the heavy stutter. i do still stutter here and there very mildly like before but generally i became much more confident, fluent and my life finally returned to normal.
