Yeah, in first world countries at least people can hire you for the disability quota or whatever, people that have difficulties can have a chance and get help, i'm in the sixth country with the most suicides in the world and most of them are caused by employment issues, even people that don't have any problems can't find jobs, employers won't even glance in your direction if you can't communicate, which is very important in traditional societies that highly value community. I''m not extrapoling, my mom stutters too, it's not even severe ( since i remember at least ) but she only got 2 jobs in her whole life, she had to drop out of middle school because of the bullying and humiliation, her last employer outrightly mocked her stutter and regularly reminded her that she didn't deserve that job as a cashier but got hired because of their kindness, they used it as an argument to make her do all sort of things then fired her without explanation. Stuttering is not that rare here but people treat it as a curse, they called my mom crazy and dumb so much that it became a huge insecurity for her, and how do you go to therapy that is seen as a rich people thing when you can't have a job, even less a high paying one? People who say that stuttering isn't a disability and that you can't let it affect you have it good. I understand that too much negativity doesn't help, i've been off this sub a few times in the past because of it but these past months it feels like we don't even have the right to complain anymore, we should have some balance, it's good to read about the victories but reading about the pain and anguish also make you feel some kind of companionship, that you aren't alone in your suffering and it's comforting. We don't have the same lives, i consider stuttering in a spectrum and if it doesn't make your life ridiculously hard, then good for you but let people be mad about it, especially since ignorant people in real life put our suffering down so much ( how can we bring attention to this issue if we just suck it up and never complain? Anger and unfairness toward a situation actually change things ), as people that have a disability that's so banalized it's important to feel that our pain is real, being overly positive can actually hurt, i've done that almost all my life and i've come to a point where i just want to scream, i'd be ready to put my past behind if i could actually have a better future, but i don't have ressources, there's a limit to self help and my future looks worse than my past.
