Stephen Covey once said, “The way we see the problem is the problem.” Maybe your stutter isn’t a problem at all. Maybe it has made you who you are for a reason! A stutter produces a great deal of humility in most people, and humbleness is an asset that can absolutely work wonders in your relationships with others. The ability to recognize your own shortcomings and weaknesses is something some people cannot do (and they suffer a great deal because of it). Not to mention, your ability to understand another person’s pain and even grieve with them can be a catalyst to so many wonderful things. Covey also said, “I am not a product of my circumstances, I am a product of my decisions.” Stuttering may be your current circumstance, but it may very well subside some day, and it doesn’t need to dictate your life in the meantime. Take the risk! Make the leap! Even if it blows up in your face on occasion, it’s a lot better than living with regret and wondering what might have been at the end of your life.
