I am soooo happy to hear this result for you! Are you combining it with anything else? People here are ignoring this because the suggestion often comes from people who have no clue what they are talking about. And, because I think many of us talk quickly in an attempt to get it over with. So, talking slowly makes us face our fears more - which, as you are finding out, is ultimatley the way to gain much more fluency.
