You stutter, not because you talk fast, but because you (and I) have a neuro-chemical disorder of the speech processes of the brain.Believing that you stutter because you speak too fast is similar to a near-sighted person believing they are so because they look too far or a person with a limp believing that the limp is caused by walking too fast. Walking too fast would simply exaggerate the problem, making it more noticeable, yet the cause or causes are there even when sitting still.
