Speaking is an exercise and reading aloud, if done with proper breathing techniques and a good place, is a good work out to build stamina. I personally have seen good results and do it on the regular. Breathing is a big part of fluency. I've been practicing reading aloud with deep and calculated breaths and my stutter is almost non-existent when I do it alone. Among people, I stutter much less when doing this technique. Also meditation helps in building good breathing habits.
