I've been diagnosed with adhd but is it possible? Also my Experience with medication. I have read that there is a theory that people who stutter have a higher dopamine production. However as far as I understand ADHD is associated with a lower dopamine production. If it's useful I can provide my experience with what my psychiatrist prescribed me. However that is only my experience and may be different for anyone else. I came to a psychiatrist for the first time in my life, mainly for two reasons. I had trouble studying and had severe OCD which made life a living hell. I am a severe stutterer in most situations. But if I had to choose which disorder was making my life more difficult. I would struggle to choose between my OCD and stuttering. Imagine not being able to simply open a door, for 10 minutes because you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO perform some weird ritual because you fear horrible things would happen to you. Or eating soup and having to spoon out a quarter of it on the table because for some reason you think something bad is going to happen. I wear glasses for distance, but I can't just put those on lol. I have to look at the sky, pronounce the word "sky" and put them on. Every little thing in my life is governed by OCD. Every move, every tought. Apologies for the long rant. Anyway. After a month of lexapro (escitalopram). I felt my emotions even out. There were no extreme highs or lows. My constant body pains disappeared. I actually felt emotionally "normal" for the first time in 5 years. It did not affect my ocd. However it did improve my stuttering in SOME situations. Because I felt more generally at ease, I did not think about stuttering too much. Which I believe helps with reduction in stuttering but I'm not sure about that one tbh. However, doing some more research I found that lexapro is known to REDUCE DOPAMINE. So I have taken that into account. After one month of Lexapro the psychiatrist prescribed me my ADHD medication. Concerta 18mg. And I have been taking it for a out two weeks. First two days gave me MASSIVE headaches. Day by day my stuttering became worse and worse. Every. Single. Word a physical struggle. What softened the blow was Lexapro. Before, every time I stuttered I felt extremely bad about. I blamed myself for being a failure and not doing more to "cure" it. However now I started to feel like I really NOT GIVE A F about my stutter. Basically because I'm dumb I came to this conclusion. Taking lexapro is know to SLIGHTLY reduce dopamine in certain parts of the brain. However concerta is known to MASSIVELY increase it. So maybe personally for me reducing dopamine might actually work, and also I might not have adhd. Sorry for the weird post.
