You are not alone! There are times I just want to bury my head in the sand but it's like a domino effect when I do. When I avoid situations it tends to make it worse. Even though it can be really hard, if you keep putting yourself in situations where you need to talk it helps to not lose hope. Try to write down your feelings with an attempt to find the root of what makes you want to avoid stuttering. Ask "what" is making your feel that way vs "why" you feel that way. It seems simple but this definitely works for me.
