Your feelings are valid. The media is terrible. Don't use them as any type of a compass. Tell your friend how you feel. How she made you feel. Her reaction will tell you a lot about the type of person she is. I hesitate to judge her based on what you've shared, because everyone has a different sense of humor / personality. But once you express that you don't like how she has handled it up until now, assess from that point forward. It's OK to get upset. I've been mostly fluent for *years* but it still tore me up when I heard Joe Biden object to people laughing at stutterers. The pain I felt during my many years stuttering has stayed with me.
