I can read aloud to myself completely fluently, and even with other people around. I also speak to myself and my cat fluently. However, if I have to have a conversation with others, that's where the stuttering happens. It's the anxiety, man. I used to think that it was social anxiety, but I have no issue with walking into buildings, and I've gone to NYC and other places by myself many times. So it's just speaking anxiety. There are certain pockets outside of my house where I can speak mostly fluently, like I've trained myself to speak well at work and even on the phone there. But a lot of other situations are just dreadful, like ordering food, especially at a drive thru, trying to converse at restaurants, and hanging out with my band members during rehearsal breaks. So I just need practice talking with other people who understand my plight, I think that would help a lot in expanding where I am fluent.
