Severe stutters can really impact how you socialise, even if people don't hold it against you. I physically cannot join in and joke around in the same way my peers do. Humour is about timing and tone of voice which I simply cannot do. Attempting to do so destroys the mood for everyone. On top of that, people avoid including me because they don't want to pressure me, as they see me struggling a lot to talk. So I am left to the periphery of most conversations. Finally, people just naturally feel uncomfortable around a severe stutter. They don't know what to do with themselves. As such they are rather disinclined to pursue my repeat company.
