There is an emotional component of stuttering, but it’s dismissive to think that you can “cure” something that is based on brain pathways. Research shows that the pathways responsible for language look and function differently when stuttering occurs. Not everyone experiences the same degree of stuttering and while some techniques for speech production, breath control, and increasing self confidence may work for some, they may not work for others. I highly recommend everyone work to increase their self esteem and recognize that a stutter does not define a persons self worth, but having positive self esteem and self confidence won’t be the magic fix to stuttering for all. Also, who’s to say stutters need to be “cured”? They’re inconvenient but to view them as a flaw is another way to self shame for something you as an individual have no control over. Don’t internalize ableism - a stutter isn’t something needing “fixing”, while our society views it negatively, the idea that people should feel ashamed of something out of their control is gross.
