Same… honestly I had so many girls tell me after high school they liked me but thought I wasn’t interested because I never talked to them. In hindsight, senior year I asked a girl to homecoming dance. My friends and i were all into ska and punk… aging myself, it was the 90s… anyway, we weren’t the cool kids. Didn’t play sports, didn’t have good grades or participate in much school stuff. We all decided to pick a cheerleader or a pompon girl to ask to the dance though. I chose a pompon named Courtney that I LOVED all through school. I rehearsed in my room for an hour and muddled through an invitation. She said yes and paraded me around the dance like a friggen dog show spaniel. I STILL didn’t get it… my self-esteem was so beaten down. Here’s the thing. Some girls are going to care about your stutter. They are sad people who I swear to god aren’t worth your time. They turn you down? Good… they’ll probably end up divorced and alone anyway… there are some beautiful, kind people who can’t wait to meet you out there. Don’t let the others get in the way.
