I know a guy who started stuttering out of the blue at 18. One thing to know is stuttering help is most professionals don't really know anything about stuttering. Your doctor wont know and unfortunately most SLPs aren't very helpful. Stuttering is still quite rare compared to other issues SLPs work with and even those who specialize in stuttering don't really get it. They still treat it as a "problem" for them to "fix". The problem isn't stuttering, the problem is how we've been conditioned and conditioned ourselves to think of it as bad and wrong and avoid it at all costs. This unfortunately only increases the challenges stuttering can bring. But there are people out there who openly stutter and don't see it as a negative and as a result has very little, if any impact on their lives. I would find try to find a good speech therapist if youre worried. You might not even need therapy or maybe just need someone to answer questions. If you dont know how to find one who is good (and i dont blame you), you could reach out to the NSA (National Stuttering Association) and maybe they can recommend one.
