Is anyone else forced to turn the other cheek when someone makes fun of them in a group setting because they don't want to stutter on a comeback? Happened a few weeks ago at a workplace that I was in. Everyone was getting to know each other, and someone made fun of me, and I had a good comeback in response **which I didn't say out of fear that I would stutter** and get mocked even more, or worse, mocked for my stutter. **If it 1 to 1 I am much more likely to say the comeback but the fear of everyone watching me stutter is what holds me back.** Because of this I have to either laugh it off, and seem like a doormat (which encourages everyone else to jump in) or **speak to them privately after the incident and tell them to cut it off**, and be super assertive about it. I hate both of these, as I really dislike being forced to pull someone aside and ask them to stop, at which point it is still on them to change their behaviour. Whereas fluent speakers can just say their comeback, and the other people will likely not make fun of you as much (or at all) because they know that you can snap back at them.
