I've stuttered since I was 3, and I always thought that it would go away when I "grew up", which in my head was when I would turn 18. Some doctors said that too. I did some speech therapy it helped so much but the effects have sort of faded and I was stuttering a lot more by the time I was 16. That's when I realized that no matter how much I try to keep up with practicing, it will probably always be with me. And I realized I was so close to 18 and there was probably no chance that it would go away by then. It was really a big moment for me when I realized because I always relied on the thought I would grow out of my stutter and it never really happened.
